In terms of spend, five drugs (levetiracetam, lamotrigine, gabapentin, pregabalin and sodium valproate) make up around 60% of the amount spent in UK primary care on anti-epileptic drugs.
Much of the prescribing in this sector is generic. There are some categories within this sector where this is not the case, such as valporates and carbamazepine, however overall, 85% of scripts are for generic drugs.
